I believe learning is the shared responsibility of the student and the teacher. However, the student does not have the responsibility to teach. Whereas, the teacher is both a student and a teacher.
I believe it is the responsibility of the teacher to create a positive, comfortable environment which provides mutual respect and consideration. The classroom environment should nurture all aspects of learning so that the students will grow in not only academics, but also social, emotional, and physical.
I believe each student learns differently and should be provided with learning experiences designed to meet students’ individual needs in order for them to meet and exceed standards in all disciplines.
I believe it is the responsibility of the teacher to locate the sources of knowledge, create a nurturing environment, and to guide the student.
I believe the student cannot be expected to know what they have not learned. (Instinctual behavior being the only exception.) However, students should be held responsible for what they have learned.
I believe that knowledge is ordered. Consequently, the student needs to fully understand some concepts and develop appropriate skills before they can effectively understand the next step.
I believe education is a process of questioning, experimenting, and problem solving. Learning should be made interesting and relevant to the real world.
I believe learning is the most important activity that the student can perform and is their highest responsibility.
