Vocabulary            

 

smoldering – burning and smoking with little or no flames

 

generations – groups born in different time periods; steps in the history of a family

     emerges – comes out; breaks through

pollen – fine powder from flowers

 

wondrous – wonderful; marvelous

 

floor – the ground level of the rain forest

 

understory – the second layer of the rain forest where shrubs, bushes, and small trees

                       grow

 

canopy – the tops of the trees in the rain forest which protects the animals from heat and

                 sun;  looks like a big green umbrella

 

emergent – the top level of the rain forest where the trees break through the canopy and
