Ways to Practice Your Spelling

 

Text Box: Build-a-Word
Make a spelling pyramid.  Start by writing the first letter.  On the next line, write the 1st and 2nd letter.  On the 3rd line, write the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd letters, and so on.  Look at the example below.

Write the definition for ten or more of you spelling words.
Text Box: Rainbow Words

Write your spelling words in their sort.  Then, make a spelling rainbow by tracing over them with at least two different colors of pens, highlighters, crayons, or colored pencils.
Note:  Avoid using markers because they will bleed through the page.
 
Text Box: Dear Teacher,
 
Write a letter to your teacher using 5 or more of your spelling words.  Remember that your letter needs to make sense and to underline all of your spelling words.

Text Box: Word Search
 
Search through magazine and newspapers for your spelling words.  Cut your words out, and make a collage with them.
Or
Cut letters out of magazines and newspapers and re-attach them to spell out your spelling words.  Glue your word creation in your spelling notebook.

Examine your spelling words.  Try to find smaller words embedded within your spelling words, or rearrange the letters of the individual word in order to create as many new words as your can.  Create at least 25 new word-o words.

Text Box: What’s it worth?
 
Write the alphabet on a piece of paper.  Under A, write 1¢.  Under B, write 2¢.  Under C, write 3¢, and so on.  Using your table, figure up the amount that each of your spelling words are worth.

           23¢ + 15¢ + 18¢ + 4¢ = 60¢
