          Students will have 15-20 spelling words.
          10 words follow a taught  syllable pattern. 
          5 words are  sight words that are specifically pulled from your child's writing that I have noticed misspelled. 
          A pretest is given every Monday.

2.  If your child gets a score of 80% or better on the pretest, S/he will be given 5 additional multi-syllabic words. 

3. Here is the catch: On the post-test,  I will randomly choose 5 words from the pretest.  The additional 5 words will follow the  spelling pattern that was taught, but will be different from the words on the pretest.

You  child's spelling grade is a reflection of both test scores, and how they are transferring  spelling rules on their daily writing.

4. I am offering an extension list to students who get a 90% or better on the pretest

Spelling Homework:  Introducing Spelling City

Children find various strategies to learn to spell words.  One way that is effective for one student is not effective for another.  Spelling City gives student's choices to practice their words.  Their work may be submitted on-line, or on paper if the child does not have access to the internet.
