Language Arts in Room 22

We will begin the year evaluating writing and reading.  Students will then be placed in flexible groups according to their needs.

Students will participate in writing workshop and reading workshop daily.  These workshops may consist of mini-lessons, large group lessons, small group lessons, individual writing, peer conferences, teacher conferences, silent reading, reading to a partner or a teacher, listening to a story, etc.

Students are expected at read at least 25 books (in different genres) for the year.  This will meet the standard.  If they read 31 books, they will exceed the standard.  One hundred pages equals one book the first half of the year and one hundred fifty pages equals one book the second half of the year. All students should be reading nightly.   There will be a party at the end of the school year for all those who have met the reading standard. (Needed genres:  realistic fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, fantasy, mystery, poetry (10 poems = 1 book), magazine or newspaper articles (5= 1 book), nonfiction, biography, autobiography and the rest are YOUR CHOICE!  :)
