Animal Projects

Each year crayfish live in our classroom for several months.  Students learn how the structure of the crayfish helps it to live in its environment. They walk to a local pond to experience the natural habitat of the crayfish.  Students generalize the knowledge they gain to research other animals and to turn the classroom into an Animal Museum. Students research the structure, behavior, and habitat of one animal.  They write research reports about one animal and create PowerPoint presentations in a small group about their animal and its habitat.  They invite parents, teachers, administrators, and second graders to their Animal Museum.
