Homework is a vital part of a student's learning process. It is important to allow children the opportunity to practice a skill concept that has been taught in school. It is through homework that a child learns to master that skill so that further learning can be built upon it. Each night, with the exception of Friday, children must complete written homework assignments neatly. Monday through Thursday, a math activity will always be assigned along with a language arts or spelling practice activity. Written homework should take children approximately twenty minutes to complete.
In addition to written homework assignments, children are expected to read for at least twenty minutes each night or 100 minutes per week. Students reading information should be recorded on their individual reading log. Independent reading allows students to experience reading for pleasure as well build knowledge, vocabulary and fluency. I will be happy to help children select appropriate text and make recommendations concerning reading selections.
